Tour description

Discover with us two of the most promising ornithological regions in the subtropical northern Argentina: the Iberá Marshlands and the rainforest of Iguassu National Park, near the border with Brazil.

The Iberá Basin, with more than 1.300.000 hectares of marshlands and wetlands, and one of the America's biggest wetland, is home to a great diversity of birds, such as southern screamers, savannah hawks, rufescent tiger-herons, black-capped mockingthrush, the jabiru stork, the scarlet-headed blackbird, wattled jacanas and several species of seedeaters and many more. We will explore forests and palm groves as well as the marshlands, seeking the strange-tailed tyrant, the yellow cardinal and greater rhea, among dozens of species more. But in this trip we will visit the northern part of Ibera, a transitional region with the Chaco and subtropical rainforests that will add more interest and more number of species to our trip, including the ochre-breasted pipit, streamer-tailed tyrant, the endemic Ibera seedeater and the endangered saffron-cowled blackbird.

The second part of the trip includes a visit to the dense rainforest of the Misiones Province (extension of the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest), where we will explore the Iguassu National Park, with its magnificent falls and very well preserved forest, plus other protected areas such as the Uruguaí Provincial Park. This habitat will give us the chance to add lots of tropical species, such as black-fronted piping-guan, plumbeous kites, black-throated and surucua trogons, long-tufted screech-owls, blue-winged parrotlets, rufous-capped motmots, saffron toucanets, red-breasted toucans, white-necked puffbirds, spotted bamboowrens, magpie tanagers, red-rumped caciques and more than 12 species of hummingbirds. A good network of trails and park boardwalks into the forest will also give us the chance to observe the fascinating rainforest birds during diurnal and nocturnal outings!
