Tour description
Crossing the wide Rio de la Plata, barely only 1 hour's trip by ferry, you can go back in time visiting the picturesque citadel of Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay, founded by the Portuguese in the XVII century. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the historical part of Colonia preserves its old colonial buildings, its narrow cobbled streets, its typical yellow lanterns, the old thick fortress walls, the bullring and the picturesque coastal walks, creating all together a truly charming place.
Some historical houses have been restored and have been transformed into bars, restaurants and even lodges, being the best option to spend a night away from the busy Buenos Aires City.
Colonia also offers many attractions in its surroundings, such as estancias and wineries, where you can taste some of the famed Uruguayan cheese and wines, including the famed Tannat.
